Explorers Triad (at-home) Project

Due December 4 (or before)

Standards:

SS2.5.c  Explain the major ways groups, societies, and nations interact with one another.

SS3.5.e  Describe factors that influence locations of human populations and human migration

SS3.5.f  Describe and explain various types and patterns of settlement and land use.  

SS3.5.g  Identify why particular locations are used for certain activities.

SS3.5.h  Define regions by their human and physical characteristics.

SS7.5.e  Describe how trade affects the way people earn their living in regions of the world.

Task:   You and a group will learn about 6 different explorers and their impact on the Americas. Your group will research, synthesize, and report on a variety of information about the explorers.

Input, the explorers you will research:

John Cabot Jacques Cartier Robert de la Salle Henry Hudson

 Francisco Vasquez de Coronado Juan Ponce de Leon

Your group may consider finding information about these explorers who took similar routes:

Nov 17-21	Research, readings, begin thinking of project Where from Who he sailed for (Note: not always where he was from) Routes taken Years of explorations Places discovered Amazing feats Accomplishments His Characteristics (cruel, kind, etc) Purpose of his voyages Outcome of his voyages Any significant events that occurred during his voyages Pictures, maps, etc.	Information that must be included: Background information These charts for background information information about all 6 explorers' impact Use what you have learned about the explorers (include Columbus and Cortez). Think about how their actions caused changes in the history of North America. Write the name of each explorer on the spectrum below, placing each one based on what you predict his impact on history was. For each explorer, write a two-sentence explanation about why you placed him where you did on the spectrum.
