TTCOCD Chapters 6-10 Open Response Questions


Answer two of the following questions by using evidence from the novel.  Your answers should be written in complete sentences. Please refer to the rubric below to make sure that you are meeting expectations.


1. Charlotte often says that Captain Jaggery reminds her of her father.  Based on what we know about Captain Jaggery, how would you describe Charlotte’s father?


2.  In Chapter 8, we see how Charlotte’s relationship with the crew is beginning to change.  She says on (or about) page 69, “Above all, I cherished (loved) the notion (idea) that my contact with the crew improved them.  As to what it did to me, I hardly guessed.”  What does this statement reveal about Charlotte’s character?


3.  Why does Captain Jaggery choose Zachariah to receive the punishment?
