A Literary Techniques/Story Structure Project for The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle
Standards Assessed:
RL.2. Determine central ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development; summarize the key supporting details and ideas.
L.3 Analyze how and why individuals, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.

Task: You will create a board game that will demonstrate your understanding of literary elements and story structure in the novel, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle.
Your game must include the following components:
- (At least 7) Questions based on setting
- From where does the Seahawk set sail?
- (At least 7) Questions based on characters/character traits
- Who is put in charge of Charlotte to make sure she boards the Seahawk as planned?
- (At least 7) Questions based on conflict
- What does Zachariah give to Charlotte when he first meets her?
- (At least 7) Questions of your own choice
- Board and game pieces (Clue cards, Dice, Spinner, etc)
- *Game directions page- This should be printed out and turned in with your board game.
- Question/Answer sheet- This should be printed out and turned in with your board game.
*The game directions page must include the following components:
- Object of the game: What does the player have to do to win? (Example: To win this game, you must be the first player to climb to the top of the royal yard.)
- How will you start the game? Who goes first?
- Special features of the game: What do you have to do if you land on a specific square? Can you earn bonus points? Can you lose a turn? How do players move forward? How many players can participate?
Think about the layout of your game board:
- Innovation/Creativity: Use your imagination to create something different from others.
- Durability:
- Use poster board or another stable, sturdy surface for your game board.
- How will you store your game? Do you need a box or bag?
- Aesthetics/Neatness/Appearance:
- Use a ruler.
- Illustrate and color neatly.
- Type your questions and game instruction sheet.
