February/March, 2015 news

Dear Parents

During the month of February, the VIVAS Palavras contest has shaken up our 5th grade classes: students have been invited to take part in the contest in varied ways - by writing short stories, by writing poems or by making illustrations for this year’s edition. We are very proud of all students’ contributions!
Starting in the month of MArch, the PLA Advanced students will start the class shared reading, and accompanying language activities, of Monteiro Lobato’s book A Reforma da Natureza. Please remind your daughter or son to bring to our class his/her book by March 2nd. Furthermore, our monthly individual reading is back! Students have already taken books from our class library and their reports should be ready by April 3rd.
The PLA Beginner students will be writing “um poema visual” (shape poem) about Rio Tietê to participate in a contest. After that, we will be studying verb tenses in Portuguese, simple past and present, so then students will be better able to talk about past experiences, routine and preferences. We will also start our reading project, when students will practice and record reading aloud, in order to improve their pronunciation, intonation and fluency.

Portuguese After School support on Thursdays from 3:15 - 4pm
